100 Questions For A Doll's Owner

Here you go! The massive SD survey-question list for those of you who have nothing better to do. ^_~

1. What is your name and birthdate?
- Shadow of Arashi, 26/06

2. How long have you been interested in dolls?
- I never really liked dolls until I found out about Volks dollfies in september 2003. It was a revelation.

3. How many SD dolls do you have?
- Four. There is another one I plan to buy, even if I don't know which one I want yet.

4. What is the name(s) of your doll(s)?
- Sariel, Kiyoshi, Nadenka and Mad Hatter.

5. What type of SD do you have?
- I have a HappyDoll Aidan, an Unoa Sist, an AngelRegion Glory Angel Ren Girl and an Iplehouse E.I.D Chase.

6. Do you believe in Fate?
- It depends on the day, my mood and what's going on in my life currently.

7. Who is the manufacturer of your doll(s)?
- HappyDoll, Alchemic Labo, AngelRegion and Iplehouse.

8. What was your first reaction when you saw your SD for the first time?
- In real life or through the computer? Through the computer I admit it took a while for me to see the beauty of bjd. I surfed on the web for a long time before even thinking about getting one. And I didn't want such a big doll (60cm tall was too tall for me back there). The Unoa solved all my problems but since I couldn't get one immediately, I wandered around looking for informations and end up falling for Aidan too. Now I have both. Nadenka came later after I stumbled upon her on Ebay. My Hatter is the lastest member of the family and one I didn't plan on. He is the tallest bjd I have ever seen!

9. Have you shown your doll off at a Doll Show?
- Not yet. This is much more of a personal thing but I think I would if I had the opportunity.

10. Which do you prefer? Commercial SDs (such as Kyon customed dolls) or customizing your own SD?
- Well, I'm not good with those things actually but I would prefer customizing my dolls at least a little bit. I want them to be unique! Right now I tried my hand at doing Hatter's face-up for the first time and it didn't turn out too badly.

11. How do you feel about Commercial SDs?
- Nothing much to say about them, they are beautiful as well.

12. Did you create a personality/background for your doll(s)?
- Yep, actually it even came naturally to me. The personalities of my dolls seem to develop themselves as I think about them. Hatter even took over, as originally he was supposed to be my version of Grimmjow until he decided otherwise.

13. What type of relationship do you have with your doll (ex. beloved daughter, friend)?
- Kiyoshi is like a soul sister to me, my other half. Sariel is a little different, he is a very close friend but also a being that need guidance sometimes. Nadenka is special as she is yet another side of me. Hatter is the crazy, creepy friend that leads you down the wrong path and you can't help but follow because he makes it seems so fun.

14. Does your SD have a nickname?
- Sariel occasionnally becomes "little one" and Nadenka don't have a nickname really. Kiyoshi on the other hand becomes "Kiyo" or "Ki-chan" when I want to make it short. It end up sounding like "Kit-chan" too. ^^; Hatter is Hatta or "my Hatter".

15. What special meaning does your doll's name have?
- Sariel is an angel's name in the bible that means "Fire of God". I really liked the sound of it when I heard it and it stick (beside Sariel is a real angel in my universe). Kiyoshi is a boy's japanese name which mean "quiet", it fits her perfectly. Nadenka is a Russian name for Hope. Hatter was choosen because he is very loosely based on the Hatter from THe Looking Glass Wars. Mishenka (the doll I don't have yet) is also a Russian name meaning "god like".

16. Does your SD have a special seat/place in your room? If so, where?
- My desk, near my computer so I can see them all the time. Or my nightstand for the same reasons.

17. Did you buy a chair specifically for your SD?
- I got two of those right now actually as well as a little couch. I'm planning to make them all a room with EVERYTHING they need. Big project indeed...

18. Does your SD have accessories of her own? (ex. pets, toys, hairbrush)
- Sariel has a couple of plushies that fit his size. I gave it to him right when he came in and I know he wants a guitar (must remember to buy one for him). He also has a pair of handcuffs and a camera. Kiyoshi stole a dictionnary and is always on her computer, go figure. She also likes to carry around her little hand bag, she put her stuff in here so she never get bored. Nadenka doesn't have much yet except for her game of chess. Hatter has his hats and a pocket watch that is very dear to him, as it is the only thing he has left of his past.

19. What hard to find items do you wish you could get for your doll?
- Computers are hard to get. I managed to get one from ebay. I want angels' wings too and more furnitures.

 20. What is the most expensive thing you've bought for your doll?
- Some of their clothes. They aren't really *that* expensive (except for Sariel's gothic Nideru dress and some of their victorian clothes) so I can't say I ruined myself on my dolls yet.

21. When you go out, do you take your doll with you?
- Not usually, I'm too scared to lose them or hurt them. If I was going away from home for a long time (like on holidays) then I would, but otherwise I don't take them with me unless I have a good reason.

22. If so, where have you taken your doll?
- In the forest near my home twice (one time with Sariel so I could take pictures of his new dress and one with Kiyoshi), once to a friend's for Halloween, once to the sea and once to an anime like convention.

23. Is there a regular place you take your doll out to?
- No, they never really leave my home.

24. If you do take your doll out of the house, how do you carry her? (ex. SD violin case, backpack,etc)
- I use a DollMore carrying bag I got off Ebay.

25. When you do take your doll out, is it easy to do or do you find it's more trouble than it's worth?
- It did seem that way the one time I took Sariel out -_-;;. But Kiyoshi is so MUCH more easier to carry! She is very light and small so it's no problem to take her out. Now I have a special bag so it's no trouble.

26. Does your doll have a friend? Do you think your doll wants a friend?
- My Sariel is a sweety and loves to make more friends, so far he seems to be doing just fine with Kiyoshi, Nadenka and I. Kiyoshi on the other hand is a loner and doesn't care. As long as she can play with my computer she is fine. Nadenka loves Sariel and only tolerates Kiyoshi though. Hatter is a friendly, if twisted individual, so he gets along with everyone.

27. If you could build your dream FCS for free, what would it be?
- Volks Zoukeimura #7 red eyes in 18mm, W-80 wig in silver, M-04 urban make up on F29 head, B-09 SD13 boy body, EL-01 eyelashes and white skin type. I think. I realise now that this doll would rather look like Sariel.

- F28 and F29

29. What is your least favorite optional head?
- F-03

30. What type of fantasy head would you like to see produced?
- A head with chobits ear! I know a Chii doll had already been created but I would like to see those ears sell separatedly at least for all type of SD and SD like dolls. Werewolves would be cool too. Note: this was written before all the fantasy dolls came out. I also actually got a pair of chobits ears for my dolls.

31. What is your favorite wig for your doll?
- Sariel's Leekworld silver wig. It just seems perfect for my boy. And Kiyoshi looks stunning in her white hime wig. It's like it was made for her. I like her best like that. Nadenka is switching between her default wig and Sariel's balck Posh Doll wig, I think it suit her. Hatter looks lovely with his fur wig, though I need to buy more to see what other styles suit him.

32. What made you choose your SD out of all the various types?
- Aidan just happens to have the perfect face I was looking for. He fit one of the characters I had created in my mind and got the name of this character. He is so sweet! He simply has one of the sweetest face I ever saw among the SD boys. The otherq are often too gloomy or serious. Kiyoshi's small and fairy like body and angel face was what got me hook on her. Nadenka was a spure of the moment thing, she makes a perfect darker counterpart for Kiyoshi as well. Hatter was originally chosen to be my Grimmjow, so I wanted a really mature doll. Things turned out different but he is gorgeous.

33. Do you change your SD's wig often and have you tried styling the wigs?
- I almost never change it since I have put their current one on, because it is what make them, them. And I styled Sariel's default wig just a tiny bit with some cutting here and here.

34. How many wigs do you have?
- Probably 11 so far.

35. How many shoes do you have for your doll? Does your doll have socks too?
- So far Sariel has 4 pairs of shoes, Kiyoshi got 6 and Nadenka has 1 pairs, though they are sharing shoes sometimes. Hatter has one pair at the moment.

36. What types of clothing does your doll wear? (name in order of favorite styles)
- Sexy and dark with lot of lace and leather, or so Kiyoshi would like to wear (must remember to get her some of those! ^^). She also loves cute and gothic fashion. Sariel is more casual or classy, with sometimes some romantic/gothic tastes as well. Nadenka is into gothic as well. Hatter is into victorial and 18th century clothes. The rest of the family is getting into this style as well.

37. Where do you purchase your SD clothing?
- Usually I try to buy them from Posh Dolls or ebay from sellers that I heard about. Nightfall is also great for punk and gothic clothings.

38. Do you sew clothing for your doll?
- I like buying them, thank you very much. I can't sew  to save my life. ~_~

39. Do you plan on dressing your doll as an anime character?
- I may try to with my 1/6 dollfies, or Sariel but that's because he is a character I created. Mad Hatter will probably ends up having something like that too.

40. Do you make accessories for you doll? What kinds?
- I don't, but I want to! I would love to make a PS2 for Kiyoshi.

41. Have you made doll items that you plan on selling?
- None so far.

42. Do you sew/knit/crochet and for how long?
- I don't, really. I'm bad at those things. It's already a mircale that I can do face-up at all.

43. Is there a type of music that you listen to when you are with your SD?
- No, because I listen to all kind of music all the time.

44. Have you ever thought about opening a doll shop?
- No, not really. I'm not good enough at making clothes and I don't wanna sell my dolls' stuff. I have a hard time letting go of the stuff I buy.

45. Do you have a specific area in your home where you keep your SD?
- Just my room, sometimes the living-room if I'm here and want to see my dolls.

46. For how long did you know about SDs before you actually got your SD?
- A few months actually. It kinda grow on me till it became too much and I had to buy those two. I never regretted it.

47. Do you carry your doll around in the house?
- Only if I'm planning to stay out long (like watching a movie in the living room). It depends I guess.

48. Is there a special place in your house that you like to sit with your doll?
- My room, on my bed.

49. What are the comments you have heard in regards to your doll, after others have seen it in person?
- My parents were totally surprised by Sariel and his body when I got him. My mother would poke at him and watch his hands, so tiny and well done and she was in love with his little face. Then Kiyoshi arrived and this time they were really in awe. Now my mother wants Kiyoshi for herself! She was disturbed by Nadenka though and calls her a witch. Dad doesn't seem to care anymore.

50. Does your doll have their own website?
- Of course! How else would you be reading this then? My dolls got their own little spot on my site so they can see the outside world.

51. What is the color of your doll(s) eyes now? Also give the size of eyes too.
- Sariel is currently wearing his 18mm realistic grey eyes. Kiyoshi is wearing 12mm realistic violet eyes and Nadenka is wearing her 16mm default blue eyes. Hatter is wearing light violet eyes.

52. What is your favorite eye color for your doll(s) and why?
- I admit I really love Sariel's default blue eyes, the color is surprisingly intense. Otherwise I love him with his grey eyes. Kiyoshi looks good in violet and grey too, but I think golden brown eyes would fit her even better. I want deep violet eyes for Nadenka and red eyes for Hatter.

53. How often do you change the eyes?
- Hummm... not that often actually... I'm rather lazy with those things once I found something for my dolls that I'm comfortable with.

54. How many different pairs of eyes do you have for your doll?
- Sariel has 6 pairs of eyes (default blue, dark grey, dark green, animetic green, metallic fushia and animetic red). Kiyoshi has 3 pairs of eyes (default brown, dark grey, violet) while Nadenka has her default eyes. Hatter has 3 pairs, including his default blue eyes.

55. Do you believe your doll has a "soul"?
- Wouldn't that be neat? Honestly I think they are just dolls, but I gave them a personality and it's worth just as much to me. Especially when you see that sometimes they will fight you if you try to make them into something they don't like!

56. Do you talk to your doll?
- Sometimes, like I'm talking to my cat. Or thinking out loud or if I'm taking care of them (changing their clothes or something like that).

57. When talking to your doll, how does she address you?
- O_o? *coughs* Politely and in a soft and happy voice for Sariel, he never get mad or yell. Kiyoshi is colder, a bit uncarring too. She actually sound annoyed or amused when something wrong happens to me. Nadenka has a sing song, ethereal and proud sort of voice. Hatter's voice is always laughing, and a bit creepy too.

58. How do men react to your doll?
- I don't know, my father is the only man I know who saw them. He thinks I'm crazy but he finds them absolutely lovely, especially Sariel.

59. What was your favorite childhood doll growing up and why?
- I didn't have any, for I didn't like dolls when I was a child. Ironic ne?

60. Did you have to sell items from a personal collection to raise money to purchase your doll?
- I just used the last of my summer job money to pay for Sariel. And I'm very glad I did because I payed for him all by myself! It was different for Kiyoshi. Dad agreed to let me try and apply to the Unoa lottery, and I won! He agreed to pay for Kiyoshi then. I paid Sae with my summer job's paycheck again then sold her to pay for Nadenka. I however did sold all my old stuff (old toys and stuff I didn't need anymore) to get some money for their accessories.

61. If so, what did you sell?
- For their accessories: old toys, video tapes, old plushies, school supplies, tapes, a few books, my Sailor Moon manga collection, tissue puppets, two porcelains dolls I didn't even know  I had etc...

62. How much do you spend on your doll a month? What is the maximum you would spend?
- I don't spend much, as I'm pretty careful. I usually get a set of clothes, a pair of shoes here and here and I slowly fill my doll's closest that way. I wouldn't want to spend more than 100$ on clothes in one time though, which make it hard as SD clothes are usually very expensive if they are from a brand or very detailled.

63. Have you purchased something you regretted later?
- Well... there is that one shirt that doesn't fit Sariel that well.... I sold it btw.

64. Do you like buying clothing sets for your doll?
- Yes! It's much easier as there is no need to find another clothe that fits, and it give me an idea of what it will look like later.

65. How often do you change your dolls clothing?
- ... Depend, it can be once a day or not at all for a week. I work by period so I will be obssessed by one outfit for a while until I move to the next one.

66. If you could take your doll anywhere with you in the world, where would that be?
- USA, to see my friends and Japan. I want to see a real Volks shop and buy some stuff for my dolls!

67. Have you ever done something to your SD and felt bad about it? (ex.leaving her naked all night, dropping her)
- I'm usually very careful and loving of my dolls, but once I left Kiyoshi on my desk and my cat knocked her down. Thankfully nothing was broken as I was careful to put her next to my chair to cushion her fall.-

68. What paint brand do you use on your doll?
- None, I didn't repainted my dolls. I'm too afraid to mess up and they are perfect to me the way they are. Only Sariel was repainted by a friend and that was because his default face up had been messed up. Note: I actually did the face-up of Hatter. I only used pastels and watercolors pencils. I don't even know the brand though.

69. If you were stranded on a deserted island with your doll, what 3 things would you want for your doll to have?
- Their clothes (if they are all in one box that count as one thing right?) and that's about it.

70. Does your doll have a girlfriend/boyfriend?
- Sariel is the only one with a known boyfriend, that I really need to buy btw. *sweatdrops* Nadenka did have a lover as an angel but she left him so, I'm not planning to make him join the family.

71. Does your doll have siblings (ex. brother/sister)?
- Kiyoshi used to have a little sister, Sae (the doll I sold, so now she left the story completely). As to wherever Sariel has a family of his own is yet unknow, except for his boyfriend. Same for Nadenka and Mad Hatter.

72. Will you pierce your doll's ears?
- Hell no! I'm afraid of definitely damaging them! But it's very tempting for Kiyoshi though.

73. Have you given your doll a manicure? What color?
- I painted Kiyoshi's nails in a soft golden/peach color. She is usually a natural girl so the color fit her and goes with her make up pretty well.

74. Did you do the esthetic process on your doll?
- Not really, I did take Sariel to be repainted but I didn't do anything myself. Note: as of now I did Hatter's face-up.

75. If so, are you glad you did?
- I am glad I've done the little I did. Definitely.

76. If not, why not?
- See above.

77. If you could change anything they did with the SD body, what would it be?
- I just wish Sariel's body wasn't so unbalanced. Sariel and Kiyoshi probably need to be restrung though.

78. Have you sueded and wired your doll?
- No, Sariel is fine as it is even if he has some trouble standing and I'm pretty sure I would mess up anyway. The Unoa body is a wonder though! It is very posable. Nadenka's body is stiffer and not as easy to manipulate as the Unoa's but she is ok as she keeps her poses very well.

79. If your SD could be friends with any other SD, which SD would it be?
- I think Sariel would like to meet Razkil. He is the kind of quiet boy he would enjoy to meet I'm sure. Kiyoshi is a loner so I don't know. Someone who would not pressure her I guess. But put her with Kamahn and you will see the sparkles flying! Those two will try to kill each other in no time flat. Right now I think they would like to meet Kiyakotari's BJD too. And let's not forget Janne's Ein and Lusis and LadyLoveMark's bjd.

80. Do you plan to get more SDs in the future?
- Not so long ago I would have say no but now.... I want to purchaze a boyfriend for Sariel!

81. If so, which SDs?
- I was torn between a Gene boy from Custom House and a FCS boy, now I don't know... The only thing I'm sure about is that I want a mature boy, like the new SD 16.

82. Do you change the paint on your SDs often?
- Dear no! I'm already scared as it is to mess up, so let's not add to that shall we? Translation: never.  Update: I already did 3 different face-up for Hatter.

83. What is your SD have a favorite color?
- Sariel likes blue and brown, Kiyoshi enjoy black and copper. Nadenka is more on keen on black and silver colors. Mad Hatter loves dark blue and purple.

84. In general, what is your SDs mood or look?
- Sariel is pretty happy and content. He often looks dreamy and up in the clouds as well as very innocent. Kiyoshi is aloof and also up in the clouds but for another reason. She is quiet and thoughfull and mischevious at the same. Nadenka is very emotional and mysterious, almost childish sometimes. Hatter looks cute and relaxed, which is a cover for his devious mind really.

85. Describe your SD's favorite outfit.
- Casual, or black leather and goth like clothes for Nadenka and Kiyoshi if she could. Sariel goes for the casual attire but would like to try the more gothic clothes too. Mad Hatter loves victorian clothing and is slowly converting the rest of the family to that style.

86. Does your SD have a formal name? What is it?
- Actually there is a story about their name. It's too long to explain, except that they do have another name but it's more of a title/rank.

87. Do you have any colored wigs for you SDs? (green or pink) Which ones?
- I ordered a purple one for Sariel from Seph as well as a blue one for Kiyoshi too. I sold the purple one.

88. What SD would you like to see in the future?
- I can't think about one right now, sorry. I guess new face mold for the boys at the very last. With all the fantasy bjd there is a lot more choice now.

89. If you have more than one SD, do you favor one over the others?
- I try not to and I find it not too hard after all. I love them equally, just differently. Though I admit I do have a soft spot for Sariel. He is just too cute and he was my first ball joint doll.

90. Is your SD for display only?
- No. I use them, manipulate them and play with them and change their clothes. I would love to make them a house or a room so they would have their own little space. But I don't exactly play tea-party either. They are not Barbie. I'm not a doll collector though. 

91. Do you have any brand name clothing for your SDs?
- Custom House, Posh Dolls, Ajumapama and Corolle for Kiyoshi, believe it or not. I'm still looking for new stores.

92. Is there any SDs you regret not buying?
- Shirou. If I hadn't discovered Volks so late or saw the Unoa and Aidan, I think I would have definitely buy him.

93. Do any of your friends own SDs?
- I have made friends with Isabelle who lives in France. She is awesome.

94. Do you have SD get togethers?
- That would be neat if I could. I so wish they would notice the european BJD fans...

95. Have you lied about the true cost of your SD to your family or friends?
- Yes. I don't want people to think I'm crazy or rich enough to spend 700$ on a doll. I'm possessive and only a few selected few can know about my precious dolls!

96. Do you think of yourself as being obsessive about your SD? If so, explain?
- A little yes, I'm possessive and obsessive for I don't really like other people touching my dolls and even less playing with them. They can see but not touch. Unless they are very good friends I trust, and I have only two of those in RL. So yeah I guess I am a *bit* possessive.

97. If the house was on fire, what would you grab first? Your SD, wallet, clothes or no time and save yourself?
- I would grab my cat, dolls and laptop, put everyone in my bag (I can do it too, I tried) and then hightail out of the house!

98. Did you buy a digital camera only because you wanted to take pictures of your SD to show off online?
- My dad was planning to buy one long before I even learn of SD but it sure as hell pushed me to convince him to buy it sooner.

99. If you passed on, who gets your SD? wife/husband/kids/best friend/no one...it goes with me! Explain why!
- Huuuummm... I guess my mother, she is totally crazy over Kiyoshi ever since she saw  the Unoa. But since she doesn't have the same vision as me on those dolls I guess I will just get bury with my dolls. I'm too possessive!

100. Do you think you'll ever tire of your SD? Why/Why not?
- No, because those dolls are special. It would be a shame and silly to just buy them and then forget them on a shelf. I may not play with them as often as others SD owners but I love them and will never just cast them away to the darkest corner of my closet...
